With Newton Aycliffe’s 75th anniversary being celebrated this year, Sixth Form students at UTC South Durham were challenged with designing a piece of memorabilia to commemorate the occasion. The students, who took inspiration from some of the iconic features in the town as well as its history, designed a range of keyrings and badges.
Ken Robson, Newton Aycliffe Mayor, then paid a special visit on Tuesday 16th May to see the student’s designs and pick a winner. It was Chloe Fieldson’s ‘Aycliffe Angels’ keyring that Ken choose to win due to the designs uniqueness and representation of the past Aycliffe heroes.
Nicola Martin, Pastoral Lead for Sixth Form, said “I was so proud of Chloe when she was presenting her design to Ken! She has a natural talent for design which I am pleased has been recognised in this competition.”
Students will now work as a team, using UTC’s specialist engineering facilities, to mass produce the keyring ahead of Ayclive in the summer, as the keyring will be given to everyone attending the festival.
