George and Pauline Shaw of Macmillan Road celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary on 24th January 2018. George from Leeholme met Pauline from Eldon Lane at a Dance in the Railway Institute at Shildon in 1956.

George was employed at Shildon Railway Shops before it closed and he then moved to work in Aycliffe for Toledo Woodhead.

Pauline was a Bus Conductress and later worked in School kitchens, various factories, before finally being employed by Boots in the Town Centre for 20 years until her retirement.

The couple moved to Newton Aycliffe in 1958 when George became Secretary of the British Legion Club and Treasurer at the Sports Club.

George and Pauline love their family and have five sons, four daughters in law, 13 Grandchildren and 18 Great Grandchildren.

The family came together to celebrate 60 wonderful years of marriage with a celebration at the Hammer & Pincers last Sunday.

George and Pauline agreed the recipe for a long and happy marriage is to work hard, enjoy life and always care for your family.
