Brenda and Dougie Ellis of Lyon Walk celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on 10th July 2015, receiving a visit from the Mayor, Mary Dalton who delivered a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the townspeople.
The couple who were married at Easington Register Office came from Haswell and South Hetton. Doug worked for Easington District Council and Brenda was employed as a clerk at the Co-op which she had to give up when she got married, due to a rule of the company.
Most of Doug’s career was spent as a freelance Project Manager travelling the country to oversee large construction jobs.
They met at the end of the street where Brenda lived as Doug was lurking there hoping to bump into the girl he fancied from a distance.
He has always fancied birds and owned pigeons all his life, showing them at events all over the country including the Great Aycliffe Show. He cares for around fifty pigeons of all shapes and sizes at his allotment on the town.
Brenda has always been a keep fit fanatic and attends the Leisure Centre sessions. She is also keen on Indoor Bowls and is a member of the Town Club playing at the Oak Leaf Sports Complex.
They have two sons, Bryan who is married to Geraldine with two children and Kevin, married to Raychelle with four children. Family and friends met for a celebration meal at the Mill Inn at Metal Bridge. Congratulations to Brenda and Doug from Newton News on behalf of readers and residents.
