Eric and Norah Preston of Lyon Walk received a visit from the Mayor Val Raw and Deputy Mayor Barbara Clare on the occasion of their Diamond Wedding Anniversary.
Our civic leaders joined with the Queen in congratulating the couple on 60 years of marriage which started with their wedding at Our Lady Star Of The Sea R.C. Church, Horden on the 29th November 1952.
Eric came from Spennymoor and Norah from Horden and they first met at the Spennymoor Rink Dance. They are still keen dancers travelling ot Spennymoor to keep up this hobby.
Readers will often see Eric taking a daily 3 mile walk around the town and at 86, proving that exercise is good for a long and healthy life.
The couple have a daughter Joan living in Cheshire, married to David with two grandchildren and a son David married to Thelma living in Macmillan Road.
Family and friends came together for a celebration buffet and dance. The food was prepared by Daughter in law Thelma for which Nora and Eric express their sincere gratitude.
