Thank you to all our eagle eyed readers who have previously spotted the colourful duck and have correctly noted that it is a Mandarin duck, not a Madagascan Pouch Duck.

Hi. Just reading this week’s magazine and I see a small picture of a ‘rare duck’ spotted by your reader Sinead Williams. I too saw it back in March and took these pictures and made a collage. It is in fact a Mandarin Duck. I was told it had been there some time, even when I saw it.

Hi,
I refer to the article about the rare duck in last week’s publication. Unfortunately the article is misleading as the duck is a different species from the one stated. The duck in question is a Mandarin duck and he has lived on West Park Lake for a couple of years at least. He loses his magnificent colours in spring and regains them in autumn.

Dear Sir,
I would like to reply to the article in last week’s edition, headed ‘Rare Duck’, this is actually a Mandarin Duck not a Madagascan Pouch Duck and returns to the ponds every year, this has also featured on the local news. Sorry to the original author for my correction, but I have to agree it is a beautiful bird.
