Entertainers Jim, and his wife, Ruth, perform as a versatile duo by the name of Excalibur in France but are home for Christmas gigging around the area in pubs and clubs. They were visiting Aunt Freda Tinkler (from Newton Aycliffe) who had a fall and ended up in Ward 6, Bishop Auckland General. She just wants to go home, but her broken ankle at the age of 86 years old is preventing it for now.
Jim and Ruth went along to the hospital ward and played some festive and other music to cheer her up, and the whole ward. Staff were dancing to the music and other patients were wheeled into Freda’s ward by their relatives to enjoy the fun.
