Ever thought of making a difference and becoming a foster carer? If so why not hear about what it’s like to foster with Durham County Council by watching our video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlMh7xjQ_tM ? You can then also pop along to an information session, being held in Durham, as part of Foster Care Fortnight?
Foster Care Fortnight is an annual awareness raising campaign which hopes to encourage more people to think about fostering. This year’s campaign began at the start of June and ends on Sunday 14 June.
Florence Coulter, fostering manager with Durham County Council, said: “Foster carers make a real difference to the lives of children and young people by offering them a stable family when they have had lots of change in their life.
“Many people don’t realise they have the skills to care for a child or young person. You will need to be a good listener, have plenty of patience, a commitment to helping the young person have a positive future, and a sense of humour helps too!
“Foster Care Fortnight is a great opportunity for anyone who enjoys the company of children or young people to find out more.”
Durham County Council offers extensive training and support from a wide range of professionals, including therapeutic services.
Anyone interested in finding out about fostering is invited along to an information session to meet workers, foster carers and find out about the different types of support that’s available. More information can also be found here http://www.durham.gov.uk/fostering
