Last July, the country decided enough was enough and voted and the message was strong; the country needs a ‘mission led’ government that serves the country instead of itself. We campaigned hard, particularly on the doorstep where real issues and frustrations were truly grasped; top of the list was the cost-of-living crisis, closely followed by healthcare and the economy and, of course, immigration. Unlike other political parties, with no real sense of direction or leadership, Labour’s pledges echoed the feelings of the country, that Britain needs change. Keir Starmer made it abundantly clear that there was ‘no magic wand’ policy, but work will begin from day one, and it did! Despite some controversy, tough decisions had to be made to reset the country and the economy. Change is never going to be easy, but without enduring it we simply cannot strengthen the country’s backbone. Remember, the very foundations of our town are a result of a Labour landslide victory of 1945, following an era of war and uncertainty and, like today, change was very much needed.
Labour enacted the welfare state, created social housing and our mighty NHS. We began re-building our great country brick by brick after years of chaos, and thus, Newton Aycliffe was established. In the grand scheme of things, our town is still young and still has great potential ahead of it, but what is its future? Has it become stagnant and in need of change? If you’re thinking YES! Then local elections will be taking place this May. This will be another opportunity to stand together once again as a community and country to fulfil the great mission of change, but at a local level. If you believe that our town desperately needs change and you have new ideas or a fresh pair of hands and would like to be part of the solution, then why not join us at Newton Aycliffe Branch Labour Party and play your part in delivering the change we all need? Your life’s experience or positive drive will be most welcome; no matter your age (18+), together we can build a better future for our town and area. Join your local branch Labour Party today and help make a difference. Let’s work together: www.jdr.labour.org.uk/join
