Last Saturday seven athletes from Aycliffe Running Club took part in the North Eastern Counties Cross-country  Championships, which took place at Summerhill Country Park, West Hartlepool.

It was a freezing cold day and the recent wet weather had turned the course into a mud bath. On top of this the course was quite narrow and only added to the challenge and difficulty of it all, but all the runners from Aycliffe coped well.

In the senior men’s 12k race Daz Moore, who is fairly new to cross-country racing, achieved his best performance so far in the series finishing 292nd in 63m;11s. However, Lee Wren, who fell into the mud twice, picked himself up to finish first for the club in 54;09, 165th. He was followed closely by  Peter Milburn who couldn’t quite get the better of his much younger rival this time, finishing 178th, 54;52

Other results – Matthew Heron – 214th – 57;05, Richard Campbell 252nd – 59;27, Kevin  Greenall 310th – 64;34, Colin Gibson – 324th – 66;39
