Dear Sir,
This year marks the centenary of the beginning of the 1st world war. It is a very important year and all across the country there have been activities commemorating this significant milestone in world history and I have been taking part in some of these activities.
On Remembrance Sunday I attended the Wheatley Hill Service on the morning and Aycliffe Village on the afternoon for their ceremony. I have requests to attend Services across the constituency, but this year I chose Wheatley Hill where over 500 people from this village and the surrounding villages lost their lives in the war. As the years between now and the first-world war increase, there is a risk that the heroes of this war being forgotten and I hope this is never the case.
By attending these events, and remembering the fallen we will hopefully ensure that those that gave their lives for our country will be honoured for many generations to come.
Phil Wilson, M.P.
