Former Sunderland winger, Luke Molyneux, marked his first start of the season for Hartlepool United with a goal and an assist in a comfortable 2-0 win over Aldershot Town.
Following a few brief appearances off the bench, Luke was finally handed his first start of the season by the Manager, Dave Challinor. Luke marked his comeback from a six-month foot injury nightmare with a goal and an assist inside the opening 20 minutes. The former Sunderland winger turned in Rob Harker’s ball just five minutes in, before his corner set up Mark Shelton to double the host’s advantage. This was Luke’s first start in a competitive game since he suffered a terrible ankle injury in a pre-season friendly game against York back in August.
On his injury, Luke said: “It was definitely frustrating to be out for so long and not really being involved with the lads. It’s been pretty tough but I worked hard to get back and I did everything I could to get back. And now I feel a lot fitter and stronger than I did, probably even in pre-season, so it’s helped me mentally as well as physically. It’s been tough but it’s been worth it. I’m obviously buzzing to be back involved and ready to go again next week against Solihull Moors.”
The day was a day of ‘Firsts’ for Luke: First start, First goal, First assist, First MOTM and First time included in the Vanarama Team of the Week.
