A group of 65 students and teachers from Greenfield Community College and Sunnydale Community College enjoyed a superb week in the Valley D’Aosta, Italy for the annual school ski residential just before Christmas.
Greenfield have a rich heritage of international skiing enabling more than 2000 students to participate in skiing over the last 14 years. This year, beginner, intermediate and advanced skiers excelled on the Italian Piestes, developing confidence and skill, whilst having the adventure of a lifetime.
The Greenfield ski team were delighted to be joined by a group from their federated school, Sunnydale. This was the first time they had participated in the ski course and all participants thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
‘Skiing is an activity that benefits participants in many different ways. Fitness, and health with adrenaline aspects obviously high on the agenda, but the skills developed around looking after yourself, high levels of organisation and working outside of your comfort zone. These are lifelong learning skills that are difficult to replicate back in the classroom.’ said Stuart Dixon, Greenfield Community College’s Assistant Headteacher.
‘We take learning outside of the classroom exceptionally seriously in both schools and understand how it impacts upon the learning of young people. All students on the course were a credit to themselves and their school.’
The schools are looking forward to the next ski residential; Pila 2014!
