A school in Hurworth-on-Tees has received support from a local housebuilder for its sporting facilities.

Priory Hurworth House School, based on Westfield Drive, has received a donation of £500 from Bellway, which is building new homes nearby at Hurworth Gardens, off Roundhill Road.

Bellway’s donation will go towards a new outdoor table tennis table for the students.

The donation will help to broaden the school’s physical education provision and give the pupils an extra activity for break times which is in line with the school’s ‘Healthy School’ policy.

Headteacher of Hurworth House School, Claire Blackett, said: “Students and staff would like to thank Bellway for the generous donation, which our students have decided to use to fund an outdoor table tennis table.

“Our students are actively involved in many social and inclusive sports and this will enhance their break and lunchtime activities.”

Darren Pelusi, Sales Manager for Bellway Durham, said: “Hurworth House School is an excellent school doing wonderful things for the community, so we are very pleased to be able to help broaden its sports facilities.

“One of our key missions is to support local schools within the areas in which we build new homes, so when we found out the school was in need of a boost, we were more than happy to help.”

Bellway is building a selection of three, four, and five-bedroom homes at Hurworth Gardens with prices starting from £299,995.
