The community will soon have a custom-built ‘super shed’ at the Pioneering Care Centre thanks to local generosity.
Following an appeal for funds the Pioneering Care Partnership (PCP) has reached its target, thanks to the kindness of local people and organisations including Great Aycliffe and Middridge Partnership (GAMP) and homes and communities organisation, livin.
Malcolm Gray, Community Investment Advisor for livin explained, “Going above and beyond the traditional duties of a housing organisation is important for us. Here at livin we work closely with our communities to improve employment and training opportunities and we were happy to support the development of a purpose built, fully accessible shed to help keen gardeners and volunteers hone their skills and learn more.”
One of PCP’s gardening volunteers, Jude Musgrave said, “I joined the gardening club 9 months ago and didn’t know anything about growing vegetables or organic gardening. I’m amazed at how much I’ve learnt! It’s good fun, we’re all different abilities and ages but importantly it gets you out of the house to meet new people. We help each other and the ‘super’ shed will enable us to continue growing and learning even during poor weather. I’d recommend it to anyone and all are welcome!”
PCP’s Chief Executive Carol added, “It’s great to see how much benefit people get from spending time in our garden. The grounds at the Pioneering Care Centre are there for people to use and enjoy. You don’t need to know anything about gardening whatsoever, just come and have fun.”
