Newton Aycliffe FC have been awarded a £1,600 grant from the livin Communities Fund. The money will be invested in training equipment for the club that will also be made available for youngsters on the town.
Links between the Royal Blues and junior football on the town will be improved thanks to the grant, with Newton Aycliffe Youth Centre FC able to make use of the equipment.
Extra training will be available for kids in the town and aspiring footballers will be given the chance to take part in special sessions run by volunteers from the club.
Aycliffe general manager Dan Lewis believes this will help improve the club’s standing in the local community. He said: “First of all we’d like to thank livin for awarding us the grant. We feel it is an important step in furthering the club’s links with the community.
“The project will give the town a greater sense of the club being available to them and hopefully see the club as a key part of the community where there is an opportunity to become involved in football from as young as four-to-five-years-old, with a pathway through to the first team.
“This will hopefully lead to more young people staying involved in junior clubs which will benefit them in terms of their health and life skills, as well as providing more meaningful activities and avoid the temptation to engage in anti-social behaviour.
“We take our responsibility very seriously and, thanks to livin, we are now able to improve the service we offer.”
The Northern League first division outfit will purchase new tracksuits for first team to wear for public appearances such as awards nights at local clubs, as well as modern training equipment.
The livin Communities Fund provides grants that make a genuine difference to the lives of local people.
