Organisers of a hugely popular annual music festival in County Durham have revealed their line-up for this year’s event.
Bishop Auckland Music and Arts Festival will be held weekend June 29-30 and promises stellar live performances from Bishop’s own mod influenced ‘Circuit 68’, County Durham acoustic roots band ‘Midway Arcadia’ and London Indie band ‘Playmaker’.
Playmaker, a four piece band with a classic line up of bass, drums, two guitars and two vocals, released their debut album ‘Lucky Bag’ in March and are also performing at the Love Music Hate Racism Festival in Medway, Kent, and award-winning London music venue The Barfly this summer.
For Proms fans Andy Jackson will be conducting The Cobweb Orchestra, an award winning community orchestra which takes classical music to unusual places including recent performances in Newcastle’s Grainger Market and Central Bus Station.
It is the sixth year for the festival, which last year attracted 6,000 people to see top name performers. A new format has been devised by organisers for next month’s event due to the torrential rain and flash floods which almost forced the cancellation of last year’s festival and caused extensive damage to the fields, some of which are owned by St John’s School and Sixth Form College.
Continued poor weather in recent months has prevented reinstatement works meaning the festival, sponsored by Bishop Auckland Town Council, has to be moved indoors to Bishop Auckland College’s Woodhouse Lane campus for this year, although a family fairground will operate outdoors over the weekend.
