As part of the 10th anniversary edition of Lumiere Durham (14th -17th November), Lumiere will host a day of discussion about approaches to creativity, education and learning. Learning Curve: Syllabus for the Future will take place on Friday 15th November at Durham’s Gala Theatre, sponsored by Learning Curve Group, the national training and education specialist.
Creative professionals and educators are invited to join an inspiring day of talks, panel debates and networking sessions with renowned thought leaders and practitioners. Lumiere, commissioned by Durham County Council and produced by Artichoke, returns to Durham from 14th to 17th November 2019 for a spectacular 10th anniversary edition, illuminating the city with past festival favourites and exciting new works by UK and international artists.
During the day, delegates will explore creativity within education, delving into new strategies and methods to inspire learning. Speakers will assess how the worlds of art, history, technology, science and business are impacted and influenced by different approaches to learning. Learning Curve: Syllabus for the Future will show the relevance and value of creativity in our everyday lives and its capacity to improve and shape the world around us.
A wide range of visionary speakers from academic, educational and creative fields, including leading voices from the North East, have been invited to contribute by sharing what inspires them to keep learning and how this can be nurtured in others. These include Natalie Haynes, a writer, broadcaster, classics expert and former stand-up comedian and Kate Clanchy, a writer and teacher known for her work with resettled children and refugees.
They will be joined by academics Tom McLeish, a specialist in creativity and science at the University of York; Rachel Armstrong, Professor of Experimental Architecture at Newcastle University; and Simon James, professor of English Studies at Durham University, and academic lead for the Durham Commission on Creativity and Education. Additional speakers, including those giving the event’s opening and closing addresses, will be announced in September.
Tickets cost £20 (£10 for concessions and special groups) and are available through the Eventbrite page http://tiny.cc/lumiere-conference
