Sir,
I write to inform readers of changes being implemented by Royal Mail apparently ‘in the interests of efficiency’.
From the middle of September, the latest time for posting letters at many post boxes around the town to guarantee they are collected that day for onward processing will be 9.00am, yes 9.00 in the morning !!
At present the last collection time at many post boxes, including the one on our estate, is around 4.45pm. Apparently the mail will be collected from the post boxes sometime during the day but to guarantee collection, you have to post your item(s) by 9.00am.
Clearly this is a huge deterioration in service which we pay through our noses for. A first class stamp is 62p (12/6p in old money !!) for which we now have to post by 9.00am. Royal Mail do say there is a later collection at the main sorting office but that is 2 miles away. Our estate post box no longer has a metal ‘day’ plate to indicate whether the post has been collected or not so one must assume that 9.00am is the deadline. Can anyone in authority please explain how this ‘efficiency improvement’ benefits Joe Public.
