Dear Sir,
An incident took place at Bewick Crescent Car Park between a silver grey haired, mature lady driver and wheelchair lady owner Mrs Sharon Catchpole on Tuesday 24th of January between 2pm and 2.30pm. I write in the hope that someone witnessed the car owner driving sideways into Sharon’s wheelchair. I care for Sharon who was born with Cerebral Palsy and is well known and liked in Newton Aycliffe. Not long having her new wheelchair, it is now written off by the wheelchair service providers, due to the damage the collision caused. Some personal possessions attached to the wheelchair were also a damaged beyond repair. The lady driver did not report the incident to the Police and drove off. Unfortunately the CCTV Camera was pointing in another direction and there was no close up of the incident and we were both badly shaken up.
All the details we could give to the Police was the description of the lady and the colour of the car, which was a silvery blue grey tone four door type saloon. Neither of us had a pen to take down the registration number. If this had been a child pedestrian it could have been a fatality, but luckily the wheelchair took the brunt of the impact. After the wheelchair was freed from under the driver’s side undercarriage, she made no attempt to enquire if injuries had been sustained and left the car park at speed. Ms Marie Darci Editor: The Police are investigating and if you have any information please ring 101.
