Dear Sir, On October 6th 2016, the selection meetings to choose Labour Party candidates to stand and represent our Party and town in the May 2017, Durham County Council elections will be held at The Navy Club.  I am one of the candidates seeking selection for a position in the Aycliffe East ward. I am comfortably retired so this is not about the money, which, for the first two years – if elected-  I will donate to a range of Aycliffe East good causes. So what do YOU get:• I am not working fulltime, as is one of the present incumbents of Aycliffe East. Therefore, when asked why I have not chased up residents concerns my excuse cannot be ‘I have a full-time job and only ‘infrequently’ attend County Hall. This subversion of the democratic process has to stop! • I will not hold constituency surgeries at “out of the way places” (a respected clerics observation, not mine). My surgeries will be by appointment only, at my home or the home of the resident or a place of their choosing. • I will be accessible to all especially anyone who feels let down, like Teaching Assistants. • I will not pack selection meetings with my extended family members and friends, who would vote for me regardless.
