Dear Sir, It was with sadness I opened my copy of the Newton News last week and read the far right ‘Vision’ that UKIP has for the North east. A vision based on hate, fear, and myths. Perhaps Mr Grant is not aware that Mr Blair has not been Labour party leader for over a decade now and the majority of the current new, younger and passionate shadow cabinet are untainted by the decisions made regarding the Iraq war, indeed Corbyn himself voted against that decision. Mr Grant is also clearly unaware that the Labour party is not pushing for a second Brexit referendum but, acknowledging the democratic vote, is pressing the government for a deal which will cause the least harm to the British people, who are already struggling under the Tories ideological and unnecessary cuts.
If he looked at the nation’s history he would find the U.K. has long been a multicultural nation, benefiting from the diverse cultural mix which has made us the people and the country we are today, tolerant, vibrant and outward looking, which are the very qualities that really make nations great. Aycliffe itself would not be the successful town it is without the Polish immigrants that arrived in the UK after the war and helped to found the town and from whom many of Aycliffe’s current population are descended from.
As Farage sets his sights on the House of Lords, the new UKIP leader (Ex Tory Nuttal) claims UKIP is the people’s party, but what he does not say is that he would like to see the end of the NHS, a woman’s right to choose and the restoration of the death penalty, all backward looking and regressive directions we have long moved on from. UKIP currently claim to be the ‘anti-establishment’ choice, but are in fact, isolationists and as proestablishment as they come. Thankfully I have faith the people of the North East will see the reality of UKIP’s vision for us, is not visionary, but a short sighted and far right nightmare that they cannot sleep walk us into. The only party offering a new forward looking vision of the future, based on honesty, equality, fairness and leaving no one and no community behind this time, is the real people’s party, the current Labour Party.
