A recently formed business named Kev’s Mud Kitchens has grown considerably since its fresh June opening earlier this year. Local to the Newton Aycliffe area, Keven Ward’s business offers newly hand-made Mud Kitchens designed for young children’s indoor and outdoor play.
Starting out as a hobby catered to friends and family gifts, the craft has surely taken off as a profitable business which has grown to over 500 likes on Facebook in response to public demand. As business needs have increased over time, Kevin’s need for more work space has as well, with his design space swiftly upgrading from his own garden at home, to the more spacious business premises found at 10e Dabble Duck in Shildon.
Made using the highest quality fence boards supplied by Newton Aycliffe’s Supreme fencing, different size designs and styles are created by Kev to cater to the various different desires clients children have. All products are carefully sanded before distribution, providing a smooth splinter free touch, safe for children’s play.
These treated wood mud kitchens vary in price from £75 to £110 depending on the qualities added to fit customer needs. Additional features like water protection can be installed for an extra £10, where as stylistic choices like painted colour coating can be added for £35. The later additional cost can be done in any colour a client wishes, helping these products pop when compared to normal wooden tones.
With the weather beginning to transcend into the chillier fall and winter, Kevin has begun to brainstorm Christmas ideas. Whilst continuing on with the in demand Mud Kitchens, newer products like Toy Boxes and Tool Stations will be drafted, appealing more to the younger boy side of the market.
Kevin’s client rosta has spread out all across the North East, covering nearly every area from Newcastle to Richmond. From birthday gifts to nursery and playgroup demands, Mud Kitchens seem to be rising as the next ‘must have’ gift children are enjoying.
What originally started out as a useful hobby to gift to family and friends has surely taken off as a business in demand, filling a gap in the market where children can have something that fuels both their imagination and creativity, whenever it takes place, inside or out.
