Excitement grows as the Community Jaunt along the railway path on October 1st linking Newton Aycliffe to Shildon, draws near. The jaunt organised by the town’s Rotary Club is open to everyone whether sponsored or not, and all sections of the community are encouraged to take part. They want to see cyclists, runners, walkers, Mums with push chairs, etc. The idea is to unite the two towns – Shildon being part of the birth of the railway and Aycliffe seeing the re-birth with Hitachi. Lots of activities for all the family at the Locomotion Museum including Free Steam Train Rides and refreshments. Shildon Mayor Patricia Pemberton is hosting the event and our Mayor and MP Phil Wilson will attend. Newton Aycliffe Ju-jitsu Club will be one of the many junior organisations taking part dressed in their sportswear. Aycliffe Athena Gymnastics are on the programme of entertainment along with the MAD Choir, Clowns, Face Painter, stalls and exhibitions. Durham Music Service is one of the stars of this occasion. The jaunt starts at 2pm from Newton Aycliffe Station for the 2 mile jaunt along the tarmac railway path and then across the road to the Museum. Don’t miss this unique occasion! Sponsorship forms are available or just make a donation to the NSPCC in buckets provided.
