Joan Gray has lived in Newton Aycliffe since 1968 and has been a resident of Aycliffe North Ward for 28 years.
Joan has served on Great Aycliffe Town Council since 2003 and in 2004 was elected to Sedgefield Borough Council. She is the sitting County Councillor for Aycliffe North Ward since being elected in 2008 for Durham County Council.
Joan has gained extensive knowledge of local council work and services and sits on several committees including Planning, Environment, Licensing and Corporate Parenting Panel. She is also a board member on Great Aycliffe and Middridge Partnership (GAMP).
Through Neighbourhood Budget funding from Durham County Council and partnership working through GAMP, Joan has helped fund many projects in the ward and across Newton Aycliffe. These include a very successful employment project that has so far helped 21 local residents into jobs. She has also helped support voluntary sector projects and initiatives to help local people into business. She attends PACT and residents association meetings across the ward and has always been active within the community and the wider area; she has a long association with Woodham Community Centre and is presently Chairperson.
Joan’s goal, since she became a councillor, has been to raise the views and needs of local residents at County level and respond to individual concerns quickly and efficiently. With your vote and support along with Mike Dixon and John Clare, she hopes to continue to represent Aycliffe North and Middridge Ward and the wider community.
