Students from Greenfield Community College were amazed by future technology when they were given the opportunity to visit Nissan car plant in Sunderland.
Students from Year 9 and 10 BTEC Engineering visited the factory as part of their studies and were able to see first-hand the hi-tech approach and intricacies of production of the Nissan Leaf and Qashqai.
Through an informative tour of the factory students learned more about the history of the plant and a valuable insight into future technological developments. It showed the importance of electric vehicles and what the students might expect a career in engineering to involve.
The group were introduced to engineers from the plant who explained their roles, providing key information about engineering. They had the chance to meet an environmental engineer, investigating sustainability and recycling and another involved in the development of robotic technology. “It was inspirational for the students to see engineers working together at a state-of-the-art production facility. Students got the chance to hear how engineers solved problems on a daily basis and how this related to the work they have been doing in school” said Mr Graham Stead, Subject Specialist in Visual Arts.
The students left with a well-rounded picture of the company and possible career choices. Greenfield Community College are committed to developing opportunities that support students through extended learning and an appreciation of business and possible career strategies.
