More than 300 local school children par-ticipated in Aycliffe’s second INEOS sponsored Go Run for Fun event on Friday 17th April. Leading the warm up was Chris Tomlinson, Middlesborough born British long-jumper.
Also in attendance was the Aycliffe Mayor Wendy Hillary who sounded the horn to start off the race.
The 2K run which took place opposite the Ineos site at the Oakleaf Sports Complex, was a resounding success.
The event is just one small part of a much bigger campaign over a 3 year period and is the inspiration of CEO Jim Ratcliffe whose ambition is to get as many young children off the couch and out of the house having fun running.
In total more than 55,000 children have participated in this International event to date making the “Go Run for Fun” event the world’s biggest children’s running campaign.
Supporting the event from INEOS included Peter Dee, Mick Beadle, Julie Adams and retiree Barry Wilkinson. Mick was also supported by a number of personnel from Aycliffe’s Running Club.
