Dear Sir,
I have read with interest the various parking issues in and Aycliffe isn’t the only town with these problems, and it is because we are one of only a few towns with no parking/traffic warden.
The Van Driver’s excuses at Simpasture don’t carry much weight. Could he not have parked a little further away or is this asking too much for him to walk an extra few yards?
Then there’s Sugar Hill School, and their parking problems are not unique, as other schools have similar problems.
Vane Road School for example, is having problems even though police cones are being put out to try and stop drivers parking on junctions and on Zig-Zag lines outside the school, where they shouldn’t be in the first place.
In some cases this is working, but there is a minority of drivers still stopping where the cones are or driving into the school grounds. This all boils down to LAZY people! If you live within 5 minutes walking distance of the school why not walk?
There are other places where residents park on the pavements outside their houses or in the turn round areas in a cul-de-sac. Have they thought how pedestrians, wheelchair uses or mothers with prams or pushchairs are to get past or Emergency Vehicles able to access these areas?
I beleive there is only one answer to all these parking problems, bring back a Traffic Warden or have a dedicated Police Officer, to hand out fines. The offenders will think twice about where they park in the future.
