Newton Aycliffe based manufacturer, Husqvarna, has helped raise over £5,000 for Breast Cancer Care as part of its Pink Automower® charity campaign.

Husqvarna recently auctioned one of its robotic lawnmowers with a unique twist. The Pink Automower® was designed to raise awareness of breast cancer and was the focus of an online auction, which ran for 10 days, giving bidders the chance to get their hands on a flagship product with the proceeds going to charity.

The Pink Automower® was won by Chris Clarkson from Strathaven, Lanarkshire for a total of £3,200 which was then donated to Breast Cancer Care.

Alongside this, Husqvarna staff in Newton Aycliffe took part in a staff fundraising day, dressing up in pink and raising money. Fundraising activity, combined with a donation from the company, amounted to £2,143.

On winning the mower, Chris commented: “I was over the moon to find out I’d won the auction. The Pink Husqvarna Automower® will be a great addition to my garden and I look forward to seeing the results. It’s extra special the fact that the money for this particular model is going to Breast Cancer Care so that the charity can continue to do fantastic work and help those who need it.”

Husqvarna is known for pioneering the robotic lawnmowing industry in 1995 and earlier this year celebrated the production of its one millionth robotic mower in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham. The Pink Automower® is the only one of its kind in the UK and follows 2016’s Pink Chainsaw campaign which also raised vital funds for Breast Cancer Care.

Breast Cancer Care is the only specialist UK-wide charity providing support to people with breast cancer. For more information, visit www.breastcancercare.org.uk
