Almost a third of the homes have now been built at a new housing development in Hurworth.
Construction work is continuing at Hurworth Gardens, where Bellway is building 95 homes on land off Roundhill Road. The development comprises a range of three, four and five-bedroom houses for sale.
Bellway began building on the site just over two years ago, and the development is due to be completed by 2023.
As the transformation of the site continues, plans have also been submitted to change the farm opposite the development from agricultural to residential use.
Darren Pelusi, Sales Manager at Bellway Durham, said: “We’re approaching a major construction milestone at Hurworth Gardens and you can really see a brand-new neighbourhood beginning to take shape.
“The development is in a beautiful rural location, surrounded by open countryside, and has been carefully designed to blend in with its attractive setting. The recently announced plans to convert the farm opposite into residential use will further improve the appearance and character of the area and make this an even more desirable location in which to live.
“Hurworth Gardens is proving popular with professionals working across the region, including upsizers and growing families. We currently have 16 people on a waiting list for the forthcoming three-bedroom houses and visitors to the development have more than doubled.
“There’s also been a surge in people using the Government-backed Help to Buy equity loan scheme to climb the property ladder.”
As part of the planning agreement with Darlington Borough Council, Bellway is giving £1.26million to local community projects, including £305,000 for Hurworth Primary School and £273,000 for an evening bus service to Darlington.
