Horndale Infant and Nursery School are very proud of their “Outstanding”Ofsted award and would like to remind Newton News readers of this high status!
Since starting back at school in September, school and nursery have been very busy! As well as all the excellent learning that the children do, there have been lots of other exciting things!
Y2 children visited Aycliffe Dental Practice. The children were greeted by Jackie and Claire who showed us how to brush our teeth correctly for two minutes. We sorted foods which were good and bad for our teeth and then we had a ‘ride’ in the dentist’s chair. On our way home we called at St Clare’s Church to look at the poppies at the War Memorial as we have been learning about Remembrance Day.
Our annual Arts week centred around China this year. We learned to speak some words in Chinese, had great fun making origami Royal figures, making Chinese flags, decorating Chinese lanterns, learning about New Year celebrations and tasting Chinese food. Our visitors Lip Lee and Apple taught us origami and dancing. What fun we had!
This year for Children in Need we came to school looking spotty! During the morning we had our faces painted with spots too. We sent our money off the Children in Need as here at Horndale we like to help children who aren’t as lucky as we are.
Silverband Falconry visited us this term with their fantastic birds of prey. Richard showed us his owls, hawks and ravens. It was fascinating to learn about these interesting birds. Some children in Year 2 made excellent observational drawings of the birds. In the afternoon we had a fantastic display outside on the yard and watched the birds in flight.
After we heard about the terrible disaster in the Philippines we decided to have a non-uniform day and give a £1 donation each. We sent our money off to the Disaster Emergency Committee so that it would help the people in need have fresh water and may be buy some food.
Christmas is an exciting time of the year for the children in our school. At the moment we are busy rehearsing for our Christmas concert. Our Nursery children are singing about a snowman, the Reception children are acting out the Nativity and our Y1 and Y2 children are performing ‘A Present for the Baby’
The children are displaying their skills as actors, musicians and singers. Performances are on 12th and 13th December 2013.
If your child is due to start Nursery or Reception in September 2014 please come along and have a look at our School. Please telephone the school office for an appointment 01325 300228.
