During the final week of the first Autumn Half-term, pupils at Horndale County Infant and Nursery School, Newton Aycliffe, took part in a variety of Harvest activities leading up to their Autumn Service for parents.
Staff and pupils made their own life size scarecrows on their own chosen theme from their favourite stories such as ‘The Scarecrows Wedding’ to their favourite film characters the Minions and even a scary Halloween theme.
Pupils had great fun making the scarecrows from scratch using a variety of materials. They had to use lots of different skills such as measuring, cutting, stuffing and even sewing!
New Head Teacher Craig Brown, said “It was wonderful to see the children using such a wide range of skills as a team to make an end product that they can be proud of. The language pupils were using was excellent and they have been talking all week about what fun they have had as well as learning lots along the way!”
Parents saw the scarecrows up close and personal at the Early Years and Key Stage 1 Autumn services where the children sang songs and read Harvest poems. More images of the scarecrows and the children at work can been on our new school website: http://www.horndale.durham.sch.uk
