Are you connected to the legacy of the Aycliffe Angels?
Local artist, Jillian Johnston, is seeking stories, photos and memories of the brave women who worked at the munitions factory in Newton Aycliffe during WWII. These women, known as the Aycliffe Angels, risked their lives doing dangerous work to support the war effort.
In honour of their courage and resilience, a local artist is creating a portrait to celebrate the Aycliffe Angels, which will be displayed at Bishop Auckland Town Hall on International Women’s Day.
If you, or someone you know has stories, photographs or memories of an Aycliffe Angel, we’d love to hear from you! Whether they’re relatives, friends, or local community members who remember these women, please share their stories.
