Dear Sir,
On December 12th, the sixth national poll in as many years takes place and we Liberal Brexiteers have a dilemma: Who to vote for?
Certainly not the Liberal Democrats whose post-referendum antics suggest they are neither liberal nor democratic. It was their idea to hold a referendum, albeit in the expectation we would vote to stay in the EU, so it’s outrageous that they resolved to ignore the referendum result, accusing older voters of “shafting the young”. They are a disgrace to the British liberal tradition.
We cannot afford another Labour government; the Treasury is still cleaning up the mess left by the last one. Moreover, Labour’s proposed second EU referendum could not be held until the Autumn of 2020, causing further business uncertainty.
The Brexit Party was supposed to be the nation’s backstop if all else failed. All else has not failed, so they should have sat this one out rather than risk splitting the BREXIT vote.
That a long-standing Liberal is considering voting for the Nasty Party speaks volumes about the abysmal state of British politics, especially when some senior Tories come across as uncaring, socially divisive dolts. Even so, the Conservatives know about money, they are business savvy, they have experience of government and they are committed to BREXIT. After all, you don’t have to like the plumber who unblocks your drains.
I imagine voters are heartily sick of all parties and wonder why politicians can’t pull together for the common good, just as we all do at work. While we look to a new dawn for our democracy, right now, for this election only, to get BREXIT done, I shall hold my nerve, hold my nose and vote Conservative. I suggest everybody else does too.
Yours faithfully,
David Green
A Liberal Brexiteer
