Middridge History Society present ‘The Carlisle State Brewery’ by Geoff Harrison.
In 1926 over 300 pubs and 5 breweries in the Carlisle area were ‘nationalised’. The so called ‘State Management Scheme’ was still in existance in 1973. All the bar and brewery staff were civil servants and the Home Secretary was the ‘Chief Brewer’.
Why did it happen and why was it still in operation all those years later? What was the ‘Carlisle Experience’ all about?
Come to Middridge Village Hall on Thursday 9th February at 7.30pm to find out.
Admission £2, including light refreshments, everyone most welcome.
