Helping Hands, the Newton Aycliffe based Lifeline Community Action Project which has helped over 3,000 individuals and families experiencing short term financial crisis now needs your help.
In order to continue offering this well used and much needed service every Monday and Friday from 10.30am – 2pm at St Clare’s Church near the Town Centre, the Charity needs to recruit new volunteers to help meet demand for their service.
Alwyn White, the Helping Hands project Manager explained “We are looking for people who can help us on a regular basis, people who are able to unload pallets, stack shelves and help make up the packages which are then collected by our service users.
Ideally we would like to recruit enough new volunteers, able to give us a regular commitment, to have an additional 2 volunteers on duty at each of our St Clare’s sessions every week. This would make a major difference to the number of people we can help and have a positive impact on the service we provide”
Project Coordinator Pauline Chambers told us that in addition to volunteers who can give a regular commitment which are much needed at this time, Lifeline Community Action would also like to establish a list of people who are unable to commit to regular hours with them every week but who would still like to volunteer.  Anyone who this applies to should still get in touch as you can still volunteer on their ‘On call’ list.  Volunteers who register this way would agree for the Charity to call upon them when they are particularly busy and ask the volunteer if they are free to give them a hand.
As well as volunteers for the Helping Hands project they are also hoping to find a someone who would consider themselves to be a general handyman/women or someone who would be willing to help out at fundraising events, if either of these apply to you they would love to hear from you.  No specific qualifications are needed and they will give any training necessary, all they ask is that you are committed to help the Charity and are self-motivated to help others.
By becoming a volunteer you gain valuable experience of working with people and working as part of a team which enhances your CV and also gives you a great deal of satisfaction from knowing that you have contributed in helping those less fortunate than yourself and you have helped your community.  For further information please tel: 07861 714779 or email paulinechamberslca@gmail.com
