Heighington under 12’s played some wonderful football to win through to the Wensleydale Tournament final, at Catterick Village on Fathers’ Day. The whole team played some fantastic football and earned many compliments from the opposing team coaches and parents.
It was particularly pleasing for the coaches to see the hard work on the training ground beginning to show. There was some great individual football from Cameron Bowcher who in the quarter finals went on a mazy run through the opposition and round the keeper to score. Tom Phillips dominated in midfield and his link up play was of a high standard setting up several goals.
Gareth Morgans marshalled the defence and kept the team shape as well as scoring a blistering goal to win the game against Leyburn A. Player of the tournament for Heighington was undoubtedly Ellis Plews who ran and tackled everything. He played with such enthusiasm and his work rate was exceptional.
Heighington sadly fell at the last hurdle by conceding a goal 30 seconds from the end which gave Catterick Garrison the win. It was only the second goal the team conceded in the whole tournament and ironically came from their striker miss-hitting the ball. Tthe final was played to a very high standard with both teams competing strongly with attacking football. It was non the less a great day out for the boys and a wonderful way to end the season.
Heighington under 12‘s will be under 13 next season and are in need of new players. The core of the team is very good however we need to strengthen for next season if we are to continue to progress. The club is FA Charted with qualified football coaches. This is an exciting time to join the team as we have new sponsors through Martin Healey Disabled Conversions. The club is moving forward with a new structure with new changing facilities being built. The team look to develop players and their social experience and we try to offer non-footballing activities through the year .
