Centenary of the end of the First World War
Over the decades the parishioners of Heighington have celebrated and commemorated events of the past. Many of you will remember our Queens celebrations over the years, the 150th anniversary of the Darlington & Stockton railway, the dinner to remember the Battle of Trafalgar and the events simply organised to bring the Parish community together. September 11th 2018 is the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War – the War to end all Wars. I feel that in keeping with the tradition that the parish has maintained for many years we should organise an event to commemorate this time in history when the guns on the Western front in France stopped firing.
So if you feel the same way and you are willing to help organise an event please contact me as soon as possible so that if we have sufficient volunteers we can move forward.
Parking on Paths
Heighington village was not built for cars – we all know that so it is important that we park sensibly. It is illegal for anyone to park on the pavement but throughout the village many of us do mount the kerb to leave space for vehicles to pass on the road. Unfortunately, however there are many times when vehicles pull too far onto the path stopping pedestrians, mothers with push chairs and anyone with a mobility scooters from getting past resulting in people having to use the road. So to all drivers, if you do park on the path please do so leaving space for people to use the remaining strip of pavement. For those residents living at the bottom of Darlington Road, it would also help if your cars could be left closer to the wall to allow people to use the ramp at the edge of the pavement which will also allow drivers leaving South View to be able to see the traffic coming down the hill.
And finally – Parents driving their children into School
All parents should be aware of the protocol when driving their children into and from school. It is important for the safety of every single child that you drive slowly, adhering to the one way system and parking in allocated areas. Please do not park on the road leading up to the school gates, in Hopelands Court or on any yellow line otherwise you are likely to receive a hefty fine
