Redworth Road Closure
From Tuesday 29th May DBC will be resurfacing the part of the A6072 between Red House and Redworth. This work will take six days to complete and will be carried out under a full road closure running 24hrs a day. There will be a signed diversion route via the A6072 to Bishop Auckland , A688 to St Helen Auckland and A68 to the Swan House Roundabout, and vice versa.
DBC have put up roadside notification signs warning of the closure and I have delivered letters to the Business Park and the residents of Red House informing them in more detail of the closure and their access arrangements.

Battle of Piercebridge
A local resident living in Piercebridge has made a fantastic model of the events of December 1st 1643 when a battle took place over Piercebridge bridge. Mark Hornsby, a local resident has created an amazing model of the battle and by working with a local historian called Phil Philo and Groundwork’s River Tees Rediscovered together they have organised a grand exhibition of the battle which will be formally opened by the Mayor of Darlington in the Head of Steam on the 25th May from 2pm to 4pm.
On the 9th of June the exhibition will be displayed in St Mary’s Church Piercebridge between 11am and 3pm and a battlefield tour is planned for July 9th accompanied by Phil who will describe all of the details of the action. Everyone is invited to the 9th June exhibition in St Mary’s Church and to join this interesting walk on July 9th. Please put the dates in your diary and go along o learn about a battle that took place on our doorstep.
Piercebridge is a delightful village with its ancient village green so worth visiting to see just how beautiful and peaceful this local village is and while you are there why not acquaint your selves with the wonderful tea and coffee shops in and around the village green.
So put June 9th down in your dairy for a great day out – an exhibition of interest, a river walk, refreshments provided and produced by village people and should your children/grandchildren want to learn even more about our local history there is the impressive Roman site in the centre of the village that will spark their imagination.
