Heighington U11 1 v Felling Magpies U11 0
A tough game for both sides as the conditions weren’t great and a tough pitch saw the lads have to dig deep for these points. The game swayed back and forth with Felling battling hard and showing great resilliance against a Heighington side that just couldn’t seem to find the killer pass despite some fluid play through the midfield. However, Heighington’s defence held up superbly today with all the lads giving everything they had in the tank and communicating very well. It was a stalemate at half time and the lads knew it was going to be tough going from here on in – but showed the strength and character to come through a gruelling match. Our attitudes and approach were still intact with 15 minutes to go, it was Heighington who broke the deadlock when Bruno fired in a marvellous corner and Matty managed to get enough of his head on it to send it over the line. After that the lads seemed to settle a little and the last 15 minutes seemed to be all one way traffic with the pressure firmly on Felling. A performance both sides can be very proud of.
MOTM: Bruno Clack, a great outlet as ever, he gave absolutely everything and took a knock but carried on like a trojan for his team mates. Always looks dangerous when on the ball, very creative indeed.
MOTM: Matty Brown, a great first half at CB, looked confident in every challenge and solid in CM in second half. Worked very hard, looked and sounded like a leader on the pitch. We can always hear, Matty deserved his goal.
Thanks to everyone involved, both sets of parents, both sets of coaches, the fantastic ref Gary Oyston and, of course, both sets of kids. A very tight and competitive game.
Thanks as always to our match day sponsors: Sash Hardware and the Gang, Chris Harper.
Wolsingham 2 v Heighington FC 1
Away game at Wolsingham sees the boys return back to Heighington with no points. Deservedly beaten by the better team today, no excuses, we were miles off it and Wolsingham deserved the three points and nothing less. Much to be improved on before the next game, got to be better or we will be punished week in week out.
MOTM: Sean Carr.
