Washington United U11 Blues 0 – Heighington FC U11 5
Heighington served up their performance of the season so far in a high stakes clash against a top side. The boys were relentless in their approach to this match and were quickly ahead after a long range free kick was thundered home by Will. Jack added another shortly after and caused problems for the opposition all morning. We then continued to press forward and controlled the game. Will added to his seasons tally with yet another astonishing long range free kick just before the break. The second half was much in the same rhythm as the boys played with great urgency and determination. Our Captain Lucas slotted home for our 4th before Jonah rounded up the scoring after another bullet headed goal.
Matty, James, Jamie, Mathis, Mitchell, Bruno and Isaac all absolutely deserve a mention in this report as I don’t think I’ve ever seen my team play in this manner – UNITED, together, and with a solid positive direction to our approach and attitude. I hope these kids can now see what they are capable of when we are focused and keep our heads up.
MOTM: Will Farrow, simply relentless in midfield and two world class free kicks which are quickly becoming his trademark.
MOTM: Isaac Morgan, superb and solid in defence from the off. Beautifully executed many attacking overlaps today and supplied the assist for Jack’s goal. Excellent work young man, obviously listening at training as we’ve been working on these overlaps recently.
Big shout out and thank you to all involved, both sets of parents, the fantastic ref and, of course, both sets of kids and coaches who gave us a great game to watch.
Thanks as always to Chris Harper and the gang over at SASH Hardware for our Match Day kits.
Hebburn Town U13 3 v Heighington U13 1
Heighington’s promotion charge was dealt a serious blow with a disappointing defeat away at Hebburn Town. Once again Heighington struggled to come to terms with an early kick off and travel. Hebburn were countering swiftly and getting behind the Heighington defence on several occasions early on and it was no surprise when they took the lead following good work from their striker. Heighington gradually grew into the game with several good chances created, however, poor finishing let them down and Hebburn held the advantage at the break
Half time: Hebburn Town 1 – Heighington 0. Heighington quickly gained control of the second half and numerous chances were being created however none were converted and inevitably when Heighington lost possession in midfield they were punished with another counter attack goal. Heighington then found themselves further behind when a speculative cross from the right wing slipped through the hands of Harry Irvine and into the goal. Credit to the boys, they kept going and Nic Connor thumped home a free kick taking advantage of the strong changing wind. Heighington continued to press forward but more chances went begging and indeed only for some timely interventions from Harry, Heighington could’ve unfairly found themselves even further behind. The game ended and Heighington will feel disappointed that they were on the receiving end of a result that didn’t reflect the game.
MOTM: Jensley Mondele, despite conceding 3 goals Jensley was truly awesome, one particular challenge in the first half epitomised everything about this superb player. Chasing a ball over the top the Hebburn striker cut across Jensley but a mixture of pace and power from Jensley allowed him to recover possession. It was also great to see Handley back amongst the squad and he ran Jensley very close for this accolade.
Heighington move onto a cup semi final next week, aware that a similar performance will lead to a similar result.
Many thanks to all our parents and sponsors Fracks Transport, Wired Up and Tees Valley Trailers.
Heighington 1 v Evenwood 2
Good competitive game this afternoon between the two teams sees Evenwood advance to the semi finals.
Chances to maybe have won the game but didn’t do enough against a good Evenwood side who were good for their win. All the best lads and good luck in the next round.
Goalscorer: Martin Butterworth, Assist: Shane Dodson, MOTM: Martin Butterworth.
