This year’s event was held on Saturday 2nd November, and despite some drizzle, a very large crowd packed the village green in anticipation of the bonfire lighting and the fireworks.

The bonfire was as large as last year and was really spectacular when lit. The fireworks that followed were fantastic and were enjoyed by all the spectators.

This event wouldn’t be possible without the funding and support from Tony and Diane Goodman of the Bay Horse. They fund the public insurance, the fabulous fireworks and other incidental expenses. A big thanks to all their staff who worked hard on the outside catering and kept the drinks flowing on a very busy night.

Thanks are also due to the following people without whom the bonfire event would not happen.

* Simon Shepherd (Edgar Shepherd Saw Mill) for donating 40+ wooden pallets to build the bonfire perimeter.

* Brian Knox (Bracks Farm) for donating the hay bale used to light the bonfire.

* Peter Cockburn (Newbiggin Farm) and Alan Gibson for the metal stakes for the public safety barrier.

* Rob (North Yorkshire Timber, Darlington) for donating timber for the safety and instruction notices.

* Jane and Peter Gosnay (Spar Shop) for collecting donations towards the fireworks.

Finally, a big thanks to the following for their efforts in building the fire, marshalling on the night and helping in the clear up afterwards.

John Wood, Shaun Wilson, Shaun Thompson, Steve Jackson, Tony Kay and Darryl Gregory.

Well done to all those who contributed and especially to all those who came and enjoyed the event.
