Heighington AFC U9s
Heighington FC 2 – Spennymoor Town Castle 4
The lads were up against an in form top of the league side today and were also drenched by the icy rain from the first whistle until the last.
Heighington were up for this one and started the game on the front foot and were the more positive team for the first 20 minutes, creating chance after chance but somehow found themselves 2 nil down shortly before half time. That is until Matty struck another of his famous goal kicks and managed to find the opposition net from his box.
The second half kicked off with Heighington behind but young Will Farrow found himself on the ball just inside his own half and danced through the opposition midfield before unleashing a low, long range, shot which was always destined for the bottom corner of the net, 2-2.
The weather conditions and cold saw Heighington playing with a makeshift defence for the rest of the game but nothing could be done about the 2 remarkable long range strikes from the opposition which took home the points. Fair play to the Spennymoor boys also who played in great spirits with some nice comments from their manager about the heart our team showed today.
Not our day result wise, but by no means 2nd best today. The boys gave everything and are looking more and more confident and are learning fast. It was an entertaining game that had everything. Every one of our boys left that field soaked and feezing but also with their pride fully intact. I couldn’t have asked any more from them today.
MOM: Will Farrow, played every minute in the rain, dominated the midfield and played with passion and fire with a memorable solo run and strike to back it up.
Well done all, one proud coach, onwards to next week.
Many thanks to our sponsor and the guys over at Sash for our fantastic kits this season.

Catchgate Cobra’s 4 – Heighington AFC 4
Mega proud of the Red and Blacks. With the rain lashing down and freezing cold temperatures the lads battled hard on what was a bad pitch (grass was way too long).
After going 3 nil down and after a bit of battling we pulled it back to 3-2 only for Catchgate to then punish us on the break to score their 4th.
The lads literally refused to give up in horrendous conditions and their efforts were repaid by getting a couple more goals to make it 4-4. Both teams had chances to win it, and there was some brilliant football on show. Massive well done to everyone (including the parents).
Goals scored: Coleby, Joshua, Jack and Ted.
MOM went to Luca, for the second game running. They were impressed with his tireless running and composure on the ball.
