Heighington Whites 1 v Stockton Town Yellows 1
Another tough away trip for the Heighington boys against second in the league Stockton. We started very well and our game plan, to chase the ball and never give Stockton time, worked very well for a good 25 minutes of the first half. Unfortunately, Stockton took the lead just before half time when a high looping cross found a man at the back post with time to pick his spot and give Stockton a 1-0 lead going into the break. Half time I told the lads we were playing the better football and that chances would come for us, keep working boys, and we lined up early for the second half. Credit to all the lads, they battled very hard on a boggy muddy pitch and, after some great play from the team, we won a free kick about 30 yards out. Up stepped Will Moffat to send the ball into the top bins for a worldie of a goal. As the half wore on the chances were at both ends of the field and some tackles were made for both teams to stop certain goals. Oliver Mansfield’s goal line clearance being the pick of the bunch. The game finished all square, a fair result for the efforts from both teams today I feel. A huge well done to Theo, Chris, Kia, Oliver, Charlie Murray, Cruz, Wilko, Finn, Arthur, Lewis, Dan, Nathan and Will, third game in a row we’ve played as a team, great attitudes all round and some great passing football on display.
MOTM: Will Moffat for his non stop pressing and, of course, his fantastic free kick to give us a well deserved point.
MOTM: Oliver Mansfield, solid at the back again, some great runs forward and his excellent goal line clearance to keep it all square.
Thank you to all the parents today as well, great support all game long.
Heighington FC 3 v Crook Wanderers 2
Semi final at home this afternoon and a big performance sees us get through to the final. Found ourselves 1-0 down through Crooks most dangerous weapon, a long throw in. Took us no time in equalising through Shane Dodson, slotting a lovely left footed finish from outside the box.
But that throw in came up trumps again with Crook going 2-1 up. The game changed in our favour though when Crooks right back was sent off on the stroke of half time.
Miles better in the second half against ten men and Condi strode forward to find a tap in at the back post to make the game 2-2. The winner came through no other man but Martin Butterworth from a fine Luke Catchpole assist.
Massive credit to Crook who put in a massive performance.
