Greenfield Arts are delighted to be part of a creative project that engages students in the arts and explores the musical heritage of Shildon.
The Wizard and the Typhoon is a project supported by Northern Heartlands and co-ordinated by Friends of the Wizard and Typhoon. It offers students at Greenfield Community College the opportunity to work with professional artists and musicians.
The Wizard and The Typhoon celebrates the creativity of inspirational musical composers from New Shildon (George Allan and Thomas Bulch) who were renowned for their contribution to music during the late 19th and early 20th century.
To celebrate their lives and their legacy two artists will be leading workshops at Greenfield Community College, Theresa Easton will be working with art specialist Laura Peaker and students to create a graphic magazine called a zine. Elizabeth Corney will be exploring composition alongside music teacher John Gomez-Gill.
This will be a brilliant opportunity for a unique insight into their lives and their ability to succeed. The project aims to inspire students to explore their own skills and creativity and to realise that they can achieve.
Funding has been secured through Northern Heartlands. Northern Heartlands is one of sixteen Great Place Schemes in England, funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England. Greenfield Arts are delighted to be able to bring the project to students and give an extended opportunity for learning.
