Last summer, popular Greenfield RE teacher and Director of E-Learning, Andy Harris, left the school after 28 years to take up the role of Youth Adviser for Durham Diocese. “To continue to work with young people for the Church was a marvellous opportunity, and I am loving every minute of my new job,” Andy told the Newton News. This Sunday at Durham Cathedral, Andy’s wife Carol Harris – who had been teaching one-to-one Maths at Greenfield until Easter will be ordained into the Church of England, and will become Curate in the parishes of Wingate and Wheatley Hill.
Carol too is very excited about her new role and, looking back, feels that this is something God has been leading her to since her teenage years. Her faith has always been a central part of her life, although until recently she never imagined she would end up wearing a dog collar! “My dream outcome,” says Carol, “would be to see people of all ages discover more of Jesus’ love for themselves and to know that He is on their side.” David Priestley, Executive Headteacher at Greenfield School, thanked them both for their valued service to the school. “They have made a huge contribution to many families in the area, and we wish them all the best in their new roles.”
