Students at Greenfield Community College have been given a valuable opportunity to work with professional artists and school staff as part of a creative summer learning programme led by Greenfield Arts.
Staff and practitioners were delighted to welcome two groups of Year 6 students as part of a comprehensive offers to support and ensure a smooth transition to secondary school.
The students enjoyed creative activities, working alongside teaching staff, Theatre Director Ruth Johnson and professional filmmaker Laura Degnan. The summer school, ‘Future Me’, enabled students to explore their recent experiences, discover new skills and find ways to be their best ‘Future Me’.
The young people responded with an open attitude, exploring their many attributes and learning how these connect with Greenfield’s ethos and how they can further develop their learning skills. The groups took part in creative games, creating their own new games that encouraged leadership skills and collaboration. They also created and edited their own film creations that explored their worries and ways to overcome them. The game ideas and final film will be shared across the school in the new school year, enabling many students to be inspired and learn from the positive experience of others.
A group of students who have been regular attendees at school over this challenging period of time were also offered a creative opportunity during the holidays. Greenfield Arts were able to offer an exciting programme that invited the young people to be curious, explore and create new work.
It was lovely to see the response to creative learning and the new found confidence building over the four-day programme. The students were able to learn new skills and take part in opportunities that will help prepare them for the new school year and develop their ability to be self-led learners encouraging curiosity and creativity.
The summer programme has been a valuable and enjoyable way for students to prepare to continue their academic journey, learning new skills and forming lasting friendships.
