Students from Greenfield Community College have been responding brilliantly to self-led learning, taking up the many resources available to them and managing their own learning from home.

Following the extension of the current situation due to Coronavirus, Greenfield Community College have continued to support and develop learning in the home. Printed learning packs of material across the curriculum are constantly updated and available for students, as well as online and personal support from expert teaching staff. Staff are updating learning resources regularly through the school website and setting work for students to complete each day.

The success of Hegarty Maths and GCSEPod is continuing and there are also opportunities to visit virtual classrooms through the new Oak National Academy and the BBCs launch of Bitesize Daily Learning led by 200 teachers, including well-loved science guru Brian Cox.

A small number of students are continuing their study on site, accessing learning opportunities directly from staff. Students recently had the opportunity to develop their skills and explore more about self-led learning through a virtual SOLE session (Self-organised Learning Environment) with million dollar TED prize winning Professor Sugata Mitra, live from his home in Calcutta India. The students responded brilliantly coming up with innovative ideas and presenting their findings with confidence and newfound knowledge.

There are a number of resources and links on Greenfield Community College’s Twitter page, @GreenfieldTweet, where for example staff have recently celebrated World Book Night, English Subject Specialist Ms Rose, has prompted staff to celebrate the importance of reading and share what they are reading with everyone through their photos and videos.

Greenfield Community College are committed to continuing extended learning opportunities and are supporting the Greenfield community through unprecedent times in as many ways as possible. Please continue to visit the school website greenfieldschool.net and other social media platforms to access materials, resources and support throughout this period and you can contact the school via our email contact@greenfieldschool.net for any more information.
