Greenfield students are busy focusing on topics that will improve their learning in STEAM subjects – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
As part of a comprehensive STEAM programme students have been tackling challenges associated with their studies by simulating an exciting ‘Mission to Mars’. The topic has inspired students to look at what would be needed to colonise Mars, finding exciting ways to learn and transfer skills across the programme.
Students have completed tasks that include the technology of transport, exploring what textiles and clothing might look and how robotics play an important part in the future. The programme is sparking curiosity and a love of learning through project-based work that takes place in their daily Time4Success Lesson.
Tutor groups have adopted inspirational pioneers including Scientists, Technologists, Engineers, local Artists and Mathematicians, developing aspirations through role models such as engineer George Stephenson and mathematician Ada Lovelace; learning more about what can be achieved through a variety of study and develop their academic learning to suit possible career paths.
“As teachers of STEAM, we learn so much about the students’ abilities that may not be as evident in normal lessons and in the usual classroom environment. STEAM provides an opportunity for students with additional needs to thrive when completing projects as they encounter alternative teaching methods. It has been fantastic to see some of the work produced and just how inquisitive and competitive our students can be.”
Students will be continuing the programme throughout the term learning about Eco Warriors, Fashion Futures and Metaverse to complete their studies on the programme, which will culminate in the Summer with a celebratory STEAM festival.
