Students from Greenfield Community College have had much to celebrate this term and with valuable support they are continuing to achieve great things both in their academic studies and wider learning experience.
Staff at Greenfield Community College are committed to supporting student success through inspiring young people to be self-led learners with expert guidance and a strong knowledge base.
This summer ‘super learning’ sessions have enabled students to concentrate their efforts and share learning across the whole year group. The specialised sessions have given a boost to the students giving them the chance to learn from an excellent team of staff and share good practice. The bespoke sessions allowed students to work on areas for improvement and be confident learners during the build up to exams.
School initiatives such as ‘speak up for writing’ have also impacted upon student learning recognising the importance of reading and writing in the overall curriculum and inspiring excellence. There have been some outstanding achievements as students have received awards for their writing skills.
Thirty students became published authors as they were included in a short story anthology called Mission Contamination. Six students were finalists of the Terry Kelly Poetry Prize and had their work ‘Shildon Cantata’ published as part of a regional anthology.
Most recently students received the FBM (Future Business Magnates) ‘School Reporters of the Year’ Award. These are amazing achievements and demonstrate the creative minds of the young people and are developing skills to be future ready and to understand the world of work. Students from GCC were also rewarded for their innovation and business sense as they won the ‘Most Effective Use of Technology’ category, showing the wide range of skills and attributes they develop at Greenfield.
Greenfield Community College are committed to raising aspirations and finding innovative ways to help all of their students reach their potential. Programmes such as ‘summer school’ as a valuable introduction to the school, with support in KS2 into KS3 through to a bespoke careers service which helps students make informed decisions and plan for their future.
