With the help of STEM Ambassador Tony Swan-wick, Greenfield College’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) Club has recently looked at computer coding with a purpose.
In April students had the chance to programme Arduino microcontrollers. They had fun carrying out a number of physical changes such as lighting LED’s, using buttons and creating temperature sensors.
In May they have started learning how to write code for the Arduino and are looking forward to the next few weeks, where they will be continuing to learn how to write computer code (C++) and start work on different projects including producing wearable tech.
Tony Swanwick is an ambassador for STEM, arranged by STEMnet who help put schools in touch with STEM Ambassadors across the country. Tony is based locally and has been a great help in this one of many projects Greenfield’s STEM club has been involved in over the past few years.
The club meet weekly after school and are supported by Greenfield staff in exploring their enthusiasm for these subjects.
